Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a pelvic health assessment?
Your first appointment includes a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and goals. Your physiotherapist will then assess how your pelvic floor, posture, breathing, and movement patterns are working together. If appropriate and with your consent, an internal pelvic floor examination may be offered — but it is always optional.
Do I have to have an internal examination?
No. Internal examinations are never mandatory. They can provide useful information, but your physiotherapist will always explain the purpose, ask for your consent, and offer alternatives. You are in control at every stage.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily — leggings, joggers, or shorts are ideal. If an internal exam is offered, you will be given privacy and time to change.
How long is an appointment?
-
Initial assessment: 60 minutes
-
Follow‑up sessions: 45 minutes
This allows enough time for assessment, treatment, and personalised guidance.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a partner, friend, or family member if it helps you feel more comfortable.
Is pelvic health physiotherapy suitable during pregnancy?
Yes. Pelvic health physiotherapy is safe and beneficial during pregnancy. Your physiotherapist will adapt all assessments and exercises to your stage of pregnancy.
How soon after giving birth can I come for treatment?
You can attend whenever you feel ready. Many people come from 6 weeks postpartum, but earlier support may be appropriate depending on your needs. Your physiotherapist will guide you safely.
Do you treat men as well as women?
Yes. Pelvic health physiotherapy supports all genders, including men experiencing pelvic pain, incontinence, post‑prostate surgery symptoms, or pelvic floor dysfunction.
What conditions do you treat?
Common reasons people seek pelvic health physiotherapy include:

-
Bladder or bowel leakage
-
Prolapse symptoms
-
Pregnancy‑related pain
-
Post‑natal recovery
-
Menopause‑related pelvic changes

How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your symptoms and goals. Most people notice improvement within a few sessions, and your physiotherapist will create a personalised plan based on your progress.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged at the full session fee.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly. If your physiotherapist feels you would benefit from medical input, they will discuss this with you.
Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. All information you share is confidential and handled in line with UK GDPR and healthcare privacy standards. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
